Scali Rasmussen partner Jack Schaedel was quoted in the article State marijuana labor regulation may be federally preempted, published in the June 13 Daily Journal.

California Senate Bill 94, which regulates cannabis businesses, contains a clause requiring them to enter "labor peace agreements" in order to be licensed. Labor attorneys assert this is preempted by federal law, but it has gone unchallenged since the bill was signed by Governor Jerry Brown in June 2017. Schaedel suggests this may be due to different attitudes within the cannabis industry when compared to other businesses.
